Have Your Say: Profits vs Democracy for Burma

Burma map
Burma has abundance of natural gas resources in the offshore areas, located in the west of Burma
Despite economic sanctions and investment ban by the United States, a number of oil and gas companies and multi-national companies from the EU, China and other Asian countries are operating in Burma.

Critics say international conglomerates, oil and gas companies put their commercial interest before human rights and democratic reforms in Burma.

And they also say that the revenue stream from these projects help Burmese regime staying in power.

Therefore, big companies with commercial interests in Burma are responsible for the delays in democratisation in Burma, some argue.

Are these big companies responsible for lack of progress in Burma's democratic reforms? To what extent are they responsible? Should the economically powerful countries choose profits for themselves instead of human rights and democracy for Burma? How can you influence their decision? Have your say...
