Burma, the world stands with you
Burma's streets are quiet for now. Behind bars, thousands are tortured and ill-treated. But the movement is regrouping as the struggle shifts focus. And the global response has just begun, as governments everywhere consider how to press the generals into talks. We've sent tens of thousands of messages to foreign ministers in Europe and Asia, raised funds for Burmese groups, run a global ad campaign and delivered our petition to the UK, a key member of the UN Security Council which has tackled Burma for the first time. Now we want to grow our petition to a million names and deliver it formally to the Security Council itself, to push them to go further and mediate talks. Please sign and tell your friends! The struggle is far from over - and with our help, the Burmese people can win. To Chinese President Hu Jintao and the UN Security Council: We stand alongside the citizens of Burma in their peaceful protests. We urge you to oppose a violent crackdown on the demonstrators, and to support genuine reconciliation and democracy in Burma. We pledge to hold you accountable for any further bloodshed. Act now to support the people of Burma: | 795,875 795,875 are supporting the Burmese. Help us get to 1,000,000 and UN Security Council member Gordon Brown |
